Creative Urban Photography - Winnipeg

Taking a storytelling and photojournalistic approach, students are guided through lessening dependence on automatic shooting modes. Semi-automatic and manual camera modes will be explored with the ultimate goal of leveraging the creative capabilities of the camera. This workshop challenges the student to think beyond 'correct' exposure, with the goal of capturing images with an artistic flair. The entire workshop takes places in an urban outdoor setting under the guidance of the photographer Dave Benson.

Prerequisites:

Any DSLR Part 2 Workshop (Composition & Creativity workshop also recommended)

Course Outline:

- In-depth use of creative shooting modes (aperture/shutter)
- Creative use of depth of field, motion blur and subject blur
- Photojournalistic approaches to storytelling
- Lens selection criteria and lens effects
- Creative use of available light

Who Should Attend?

Students who have taken the above mentioned prerequisite and recommended indoor workshops (or have equivalent knowledge) and are eager to apply what they've learned outside in the real-world environment.

Meet with your instructor Dave Benson under the Big Top in front of the Johnson Terminal (A.K.A. the Skating Circle) part of The Forks Historic Centre. Walk through The Forks to St. Boniface for a variety of great shooting spots and go back via Promenade Louis Riel.
