Photoshop CS5 is the undisputed iconic gold standard of the imaging industry when it comes to image enhancing & altering. It is a powerhouse tool that satisfies the needs of not only photographers, but also illustrators and other graphic artists. Having said this, learning Photoshop can seem (as one well known journalist puts it) like being put into the cockpit of a 747 jumbo jet for the very first time. From up front, basic non-destructive photo fixes to optimizing your image for final print or web purposes, this two day workshop provides the photo enthusiast and aspiring pro with the must-know Photoshop tools & techniques that matter most to photographers.

Note: Day 2 of this workshop begins at the same time on the day following the day indicated on this registration system (Day 1)

Prerequisites:

Sound computer and navigation skills

Course Outline:

DAY 1

- Fundamental Fixes: Colour, Brightness & Contrast ( the non-destructive way )
- Masks & Selections: Choosing what to fix
- Image Layers & image compositing
- Altered reality: the seamless combining of images

DAY 2

- Processing raw files with Adobe Camera Raw
- Portrait retouching & other spot area fixes
- Landscape photo techniques
- Cropping, Straightening, Resolution & Resizing
- Sharpening: Raw images, for effect & for output
- Output: Printing & optimizing for the web
- Actions

Who Should Attend?

Photo enthusiasts and aspiring pro photographers who are looking to get on the fast track to learning Photoshop CS5's tools and techniques that matter most to photographers. Attendees should also be comfortable with basic computer terminology and concepts as outlined below.

Sound computer skills and a splash of familiarity with any version of Photoshop CS are highly recommended for this workshop. Although Photoshop basics are addressed in this class, they will be covered at a brisk pace so that intermediate & advanced techniques can be given the majority of time & attention.

  • Basic understanding of computer components such as storage drives and RAM
  • Expert at: Double-clicking, right-clicking, click & dragging, menu opening & other basic computer skills
  • Familiar with basic photo/imaging terminology such as contrast, exposure, white balance, highlights, histogram, RGB, Raw, f/stop
