Are your prints not looking as good as you'd like? Tired of wasting paper and ink? There are many variables at play in the production of a print. Image resolution, print output resolution and paper type are just a few of the more commonly known variables. Pros know, however, that getting the ultimate results from your printer means going a little deeper than fiddling with these simple parameters. Join us in our computer lab where we'll show you what serious photographers do to get their serious prints. From calibrating your monitor to following through a colour managed workflow, we'll show you how to make brilliant images come out of your printer every time.
Prerequisites:
Basic Photoshop Familiarity
Course Outline:
Colour Management:
There's little reward in pursuing the better print if your computer's colour engine is not properly managed. Why? Because each of your devices ( monitor, printer, etc... ) reproduce colours in different ways and within different colour ranges. Starting with the monitor and following through until the click of the Print button, we'll show you how to ensure accurate and predictable colour every step of the way in your workflow.
Resolution Overview:
Image size, pixels per inch, dots per inch... what does it all mean? And what happens when I crop? A firm understanding of image pixel dimensions and print output resolution is essential in order to ensure your prints will be as sharp and detailed as they can be. We'll give you the rundown on how these factors relate to each other and how they affect your print - regardless of size.
Preparing & Optimizing Your File Before Printing:
Using Adobe's Photoshop Elements, we'll take you through essential image preparation & optimizing techniques that will help you create a better print. These techniques include cropping, sharpening, colour & contrast enhancement and more.
The Print Setting Dialogue Box, Inks, Papers & Paper Profiles:
Not all printers, inks and papers are alike - nor will they all work together in harmony. We'll discuss what it takes to get these variables to work together for the results you're looking for.
Who Should Attend?
This Workshop is designed for anyone who is interested in making prints and uses an Epson or Canon printer. If you've found that your print that you make doesn't match what you see on the screen, we can help you through the workflow so you can get the best possible results, and stop wasting ink and paper.
Study Notes:
At the end of every paid workshop you take with The School of Imaging you will be provided with an access code to download class notes from our website. These notes are great for reviewing the topics discussed in class.
